FTX Global - Night/Dusk Shots!

FSX/P3D. Iain Emms of Orbx has posted some new shots from FTX Global - the latest set illustrates city lighting in dusk and evening settings. The majority of shots are from the United States with one from Germany. Take a look inside.

Quoting John Venema in that thread "The FTX Day and Night apps have been updated to now also control the new FTX Global lighting. Selecting FTX Day mode turns off the lights. Because of how we implemented the new lighting system you'll need to turn off the lights using FTX Day or they stay on during the day. The small price to pay for zero FPS loss"

Well the way that was implemented is awful then, since if I start a flight in daylight and land at night, I will either have to select lights during daytime, so that I can have night lighting when I land, or have no lights at daytime and none at night!

Sorry, but what kind of stupidity is this? And it gets sold or marketed to us on the basis of zero FPS loss?

I would imagine it's a sim limitation much like how FTX sceneries currently have day/night modes and the need to activate regions. Otherwise it would sound like they would have to double-layer the lighting in the scenery or something like that which would hinder performance. Ultimately, I've never found FTX to make decisions like this without a good reason in the past.

Beyond that, the night lighting system looks good!

Beetleprint's Experience X turns on the lights automatically as soon as dusk falls in FSX...so how did they implement it?

Theirs has a FPS hit though.... The whole point of these is that they don't impact FPS.

The FTX "necessity" to change regions, is not an FSX limitation.

It is simply not good software design from OrbX.

Actually, you are completely wrong, if you were a FSX scenery developer you would know this.

Nice troll though!

WOW, Does anyone have FTX Global? Any of you rogue Beta testers? Not sure why anyone comments about frames when we do NOT even have the product. Far to much speculation based on opinions. I say to anyone saying negative posts about FTX Global, prove any of your claims with FACT.

Second!

We are using FACT, it's John Venema who said this about the day and night apps having zero FPS hit.

With many users having high-end systems, wouldn't it be great if we had both options, the zero FPS solution of turning night lights on at daytime and then a realistic version that allows for an automatic and realistic light off to light on transition during flight?

Full ack!!!!

Read that topic again, the lights are always on at night time. It seems that you can choose to have them on at dawn/dusk as well but the downside of that is that they are also on during the day. This is due to how the lights are implemented.

Sounds like a reasonable compromise to me if indeed there is virtually no FPS loss.

Good news!

"If you have FTX Day enabled and you fly from day into night the lights turn on but only at night, not dusk.

To force the lights on at dusk just run the FTX Night app (which can be done mid-flight while FSX/P3D is running, and the lights will turn on after 10+ minutes of flight)

The old style lights in the regions behave the same as before."

So let's say I'm flying in daytime with the FTX Day switched on and now the visibility deteriorates and in theory runway lighting should now be on because of the bad visibility. Will the runway lighting now be off because of the FTX Day having switched all lights off?

The FTX lights have nothing to do with runway lighting. They are just annotated autogen objects on landclass texture tiles like their current FTX regions. I suspect they are doing the same with Global but have found a way to implement the autogen without an FPS penalty, which is most welcome IMHo.

Hopefully they really won't have any impact on the frames, that would certainly be great...
